Complete Your Registration Online Through the DMV
Register to Vote or Update Parts of Your Voter Registration
Existing N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) customers with an NCDMV-issued driver’s license or ID may register to vote or change parts of their registration with the online voter registration service. The voter registration deadline is 25 days before an election. You must complete the online application by the voter registration deadline or the application will otherwise not be processed until after the election.
Uses for the Online Application
NCDMV provides the online voter registration application. If you are an existing customer, you may use it to:
- Update your voter registration address.
- Update your party affiliation.
You may not use the online voter registration service to change your name. The service is offered through a partnership between the DMV and the State Board of Elections. It does not require you to complete a DMV transaction (such as duplicate or license renewal) at the same time. There is no fee for voter registration services. Once the online application is complete, it is sent to the State Board of Elections, which will handle your voter registration.
If you are a would-be voter that missed the regular voter registration deadline, you may be eligible to same-day register and vote in person during the early voting period. Learn more at Register in Person During Early Voting.
