RALEIGH, N.C. – One-Stop, in-person early voting for the Republican second primary in the 3rd Congressional District begins Wednesday, June 19, and ends Friday, July 5. The second primary – between Republicans Greg Murphy and Joan Perry – will be Tuesday, July 9.

All registered Republicans in the 3rd Congressional District are eligible to vote in the second primary. Unaffiliated voters in the district who did not vote in either the Democratic or Libertarian primary on April 30 also are eligible.

North Carolinians have three options for casting their ballots – absentee-by-mail, or in-person early voting, or on Election Day.
“Second primaries often have low voter turnout, yet are just as important in the election process,” said Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the State Board of Elections. “We encourage all eligible voters in the 3rd District to take part in this second primary to decide who’s on the ballot in the general election.”
The winner of the Republican second primary will face Constitution Party candidate Greg Holt, Democrat Allen Thomas and Libertarian Tim Harris in the general election on Tuesday, September 10.
The district includes 17 counties in Eastern North Carolina and stretches from the Camp Lejeune area to the Virginia border. The special election is necessary because of the vacancy created by the death of Congressman Walter Jones.
