The State Board of Elections Office is aware of a report from the Civitas Institute regarding statements made by a Board of Elections employee at a public voter outreach session last week in Pasquotank County.

The employee has been placed on paid investigatory leave while the agency conducts a thorough review.

It is unlawful for anyone to vote another person’s ballot. Assistance must be requested by a voter and rendered in person.  The agency is in communication with outside investigators to ensure public confidence in its review.

We take seriously every allegation of voter misconduct,” said Kim Westbrook Strach, executive director of the State Board of Elections.

Providing accurate information about elections to the public is at the heart of what we do,” Strach said. “We are working diligently to determine what happened, why it happened and to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”

The North Carolina State Board of Elections is the state agency charged with overall responsibility for administration of the elections process and campaign finance disclosure in North Carolina. The office of the State Board of Elections works in conjunction with County Board of Elections offices to ensure that elections are conducted lawfully and fairly.
