Superior Court Judge Paul Ridgeway ruled Tuesday that the State Board of Elections is in the best position to weigh the factual and legal issues related to the 9th Congressional District contest. The court denied Mark Harris’ request to order that he be certified the winner of that race.

The following is a statement from State Board Executive Director Kim Westbrook Strach about today’s interview: “Dr. Harris and his two attorneys met with Chief Investigator Joan Fleming and me for nearly two hours Thursday morning. We appreciate his cooperation in the ongoing investigation.”

The State Board of Elections continues its investigation into irregularities affecting absentee voting in the 9th Congressional District. 

The ongoing investigation into absentee voting irregularities and other alleged activities in the 9th Congressional District is the top priority at the State Board of Elections & Ethics Enforcement.

Joshua Malcolm, chairman of the State Board of Elections & Ethics Enforcement, issued a letter this week directing agency staff to review and post materials associated with the investigation into election processes in certain counties within the 9th Congressional District. 

In a bipartisan decision Friday, the State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement decided to hold a public evidentiary hearing into claims of irregularities and fraudulent activities related to absentee by-mail voting and potentially other matters in the 9th Congressional District contest. The State Board has not certified results in that race.
