Judicial Voter Guide 2018, which includes detailed information about appellate court candidates and six proposed constitutional amendments on ballots this year, is now available for download.
The 32-page guide, weather permitting, will be distributed to nearly 4.5 million households in North Carolina. It includes detailed biographical information on each candidate for the N.C. Supreme Court and N.C. Court of Appeals, as well as a statement from each candidate. The information was provided by the candidates.
The guide also includes information about the six amendments to the N.C. Constitution to be considered by voters this year, including the official explanation provided by the Constitutional Amendments Publication Commission, the ballot question and the actual text of the amendments as approved by the North Carolina General Assembly.
Indiana Printing & Publishing Company of Indiana, Pennsylvania, began printing the guides on Friday, Sept. 14, through a contract with the state. The printing cost is 6 cents per copy, or $276,401. The mailing cost is $372,434.
Funding for the guide comes from the N.C. Public Campaign Fund, which was created by a voluntary $3 check-off designation on the state tax form and a $50 surcharge on annual dues paid by members of the N.C. State Bar. The fund was repealed in 2013, but the Voter Guide will be published until remaining funds are spent.
