BIPARTISAN STATE BOARD OF ELECTIONS AND ETHICS ENFORCEMENT

On June 1, 2017, a panel of superior court judges dismissed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the state law creating the Bipartisan State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement.  The new State Board assumes duties formerly overseen by the N.C. State Board of Elections and the N.C. State Ethics Commission, along with lobbying compliance carried out by the Secretary of State.

Though parties to the lawsuit may seek additional review on appeal, this agency is now the consolidated State Board and continues to enforce North Carolina’s elections, ethics and lobbying laws.  We will update this section with new developments.  Please be patient as we work to update affected sites:

RULE-MAKING

The State Board of Elections is responsible for the administrative Rules found in Chapter 8 of the North Carolina Administrative Code

The State Board of Elections voted in an open meeting on April 26, 2017 to publish the proposed text in the North Carolina Register, and the agency invites public comment in response to its initial publication. Notice is available here
